Prescription Drug Abuse Problem Is Nothing New
Although the prescription drug abuse problem is alarming, it is not necessarily a new problem. In fact, people have been abusing their medications for decades. Perhaps the reason for the increased awareness is because the problem has just gotten so bad that it can no longer be ignored. It is time to focus on some real solutions, so that decades from now we are not dealing with an even worse problem.
Despite massive amounts of media attention and increased efforts by law enforcement, more and more people continue to abuse prescription drugs. One thing is certain, in order to reduce the demand for these heavy narcotics we have to focus on rehabilitation.
Narconon Louisiana is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility that has been in operation for over four years. In those four years they have maintained a 76% success rate for permanent recovery. Narconon Louisiana achieves this by breaking addicts of the notion that addiction is a disease. Instead, clients work one on one with a trained drug and alcohol counselor to figure out what problem drugs and alcohol were solutions for in the first place. Once that problem is isolated and handled addicts no longer need the drug to get through life. This disease-free concept empowers the individual to take control of their life, rather than give up in the face of incurable disease.
There are several other components to the Narconon Louisiana program, one of which is a detoxification program. Clients are able to rid their bodies of the harmful toxins that are left behind after long-term use of drugs and alcohol. This is done by signing up for several sessions in a dry-heat sauna and a medically supervised regimen of vitamins and nutrients. This frees the body of harmful toxins that are responsible for cravings that are often times cited as the number one reason for relapse.
Other portions of the Narconon program include handling family relationships, taking responsibility for the transgressions that had been committed prior to and during the drug use, perfecting the ability to communicate on subjects that in the past have created problems for the individual and learning how to confront problems in life.
So, while prescription drug abuse is a growing epidemic, it is important to realize that this is not a new problem, it is just a worse problem. The only reason why this problem is getting so bad is because there is not enough effective treatment for those struggling with this terrifying addiction.
