Campus police at State University of New York-Stony Brook, also known as Stony Brook University, have stated Monday that a campus gunman is no longer an imminent threat.
Early Monday afternoon, Stony Brook University police were investigating a report of a man with a gun on campus. Stony Brook University is located in eastern Long Island
There were no reports of shots being fired.
An alert on the Stony Brook Web site says a young male "fled the Student Activity Center Cafeteria and later displayed what was reported as a handgun."
The man, about 25, was wearing a black coat and black wool hat and fled in the direction of Harriman Hall.
Police have issued an all-clear to continue normal classes and activities. University and Suffolk County Police are continuing with increased patrols throughout campus.
