The fundamentals of SEO techniques

SEO, Search Engine Optimization

We live in a highly technology driven world. For new and established businesses, it is imperative to get your products exposed on the Internet in order to promote your services. With so many tricks and techniques involved in creating websites that attract clients, it is important to learn how to rank your page high across search engines.

Knowing the key to ranking at the top of the list for your product will bring you more business than you can dream of. Search Engine Optimization, or SEO for short, is the number one tactic used by businesses to improve their sales. SEO involves using certain key words or phrases as well as links within a company site in order to have the site be recognized by various search engines above competitors.

While it may sound like a simple task, there is a lot more involved in SEO than meets the eye. SEO is more than just using the same key words over and over throughout a website. It is important not to over-saturate a page with words because that will only prevent your page from ranking high. A good SEO page has a proper ratio of key words and constant original content that keep the reader informed and their attention from wavering. Always ensure that your content flows naturally. If you merely jam- pack your page with the same key words without them making much sense, you are hindering your chances of ranking at all.

Another crucial step in the  SEO Optimization process is researching companies who provide similar products to see which key words they are using throughout their text. Sites such as Compete.com, SEOdigger and Keyword Discover offer companies a look into what key words their competitors are utilizing and the volume that is generated by different words and phrases.

There are two types of key words involved in good SEO content writing – head terms and tail terms. Head terms are short key words, one or two words in length, that have the most popularity and search volume. Tail terms are longer and less popular, but are important in maintaining the relevance between a site and the product marketed.  For example, if your product you are selling is couture gowns, “couture gowns” should be your head term and a good tail term should be “affordable wedding couture gowns.”

Having a good balance between head terms and tail terms and keeping content fresh on a daily basis will result in having your page ranked consistently high.  Check daily with sites that analyze your competition in order to stay current and maintain your spot when searched online.
