Former presidential candidate Sen. Christopher Dodd has endorsed his one-time Democratic rival Barack Obama on Tuesday, earning the Illinois senator yet another boost to his already burgeoning campaign.
Dodd, a Democratic senator from Connecticut, gave his “strong support” to the Obama presidential bid at a press conference in Cleveland. The endorsement is significant in that Dodd is a “superdelegate” and carries heavy influence within the Democratic Party.
The endorsement comes one week ahead of what is being seen as the defining point in the Democratic nomination race. It is believed that Hillary Clinton will need to win big in Texas and Ohio on March 4 if she is to have a realistic shot at capturing the Democratic nomination.
Clinton had been hoping to earn the Dodd endorsement, something many expected due to his ties with both Hillary and former president Bill Clinton.
