Florida Power Outage Leaves 4 Mil Without Electricity

A massive power outage in southern Florida has left nearly 4 million people without electricity. Reactors at Turkey Point Nuclear plant went down and are believed to be the cause for the outage, though the report has not been confirmed. Police say there is no sign that the outage was caused by criminal activity.

Traffic signals were greatly affected by the power outage. Many were malfunctioning causing traffic to backup.

“We have a massive power outage in Miami, but we don’t know still the source of the problem. Florida Power and Light is working on that,” said Miami Dade Police spokeswoman Cathy Webb.

“The information we have is that in different places there are sporadic power outages,” said Miami Dade detective Delrish Moss.

“There is no evacuation plan taking place around the area because it’s a power problem caused from mechanical failure in the Florida Power and Light System,” said Mike Stone of Florida’s emergency department.
