French Open 2010 Quarterfinals Results: Samantha Stosur Pulls Off Shocker, Drops Serena Williams to Advance to Semis at Roland Garros

Samantha Stosur collected what could arguably be considered the biggest win of her career on Wednesday as she shocked Serena Williams in three sets 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 8-6 in the quarterfinals of the French Open, moving into her first ever Grand Slam semifinals

While Stosur played solid tennis the end result was due in large part to Serena’s inconsistency as the American had 46 unforced errors including nine double-faults. There was little in the way of balance for Serena as she managed 13 aces and won points on 76 percent of her first serves put in play but also saw her serve broken five times.

Stosur’s best finish at a Grand Slam prior to this year’s French Open was a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open, something she did in 2006 and 2010. Her best finish at the French Open before this year was a third round appearance in 2007.
