Van Halen
will be performing live at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island
on March 24 at 7:30 pm.
A hard rock
band from Pasadena California, Van Halen was formed in 1972 and
released their self titled debut album in 1978. The band sold over 80 million
albums worldwide by the year 2007 and has had several number one hits on the
Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.
Although the Recording Industry Association of America reports that the band is
the 19th best selling band of all time, with salves of over 56 million albums
in the US,
Van Halen may be better known for the dramatic exits of its former band
members. Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth left the band several times and were
constantly surrounded by controversy and mass press coverage. Michael Anthony,
the founding bassist, was recent kicked off of the band for controversial
reasons. Yet despite the band’s inner turmoil, Van Halen was inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12, 2007.
Built in
1972, the Dunkin’ Donuts Center is commonly referred to as The Dunk. The indoor arena rests in Providence,
Rhode Island was previously known as the Providence Civic Center
until Dunkin’ Donuts gained naming rights for the arena in June of 2001.
Tenants of
the cnter include the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League and the
Providence College Friars, a men’s basketball team.
