Narconon Explains More People Seeking Drug Rehab for Opiate Addiction

National survey shows an increase of roughly 86 percent in five-year period of addiction treatment admissions for opiate addictions other than heroin.

According to Narconon drug rehab programs and a recent national survey, the indicators of the prescription opiate epidemic are all around us.  There are have been celebrity deaths related to painkillers and many others who have sought treatment for similar addictions as well as news stories of pain clinics being used by individuals for drug trafficking throughout the Southeast.

Nowhere is the evidence more clear than in the number of treatment admissions in which opiates other than heroin were the primary substance of abuse.  According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) that number rose from less than 53,000 admissions in 2003 to over 97,000 by 2007.  That is an increase of about 86 percent in just five years.

"Narconon drug rehabilitation programs have definitely witnessed the increase in the number of addictions involving prescription painkillers," comments Erica Catton, Deputy Executive Director at Narconon Eastern United States, "The numbers can seem overwhelming sometimes."

Catton has watched hundreds overcome their own opiate addictions through Narconon drug treatment that go on to live drug free permanently.

“Narconon specializes in opiate addiction,” adds Catton. “Our drug rehab programs achieve a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety from opiates.”

Narconon has six treatment centers in the Eastern United States currently, including three in Florida, and one each in Georgia, Louisiana and Michigan.  Narconon's unsurpassed success rates in addiction recovery are the result of the effective application of the rehabilitation methods based on research and developments by the late American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard.
