Microsoft Fined $1.3 Billion by European Union for “Unreasonable Prices”

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) has been slapped with a $1.3 billion dollar fine after the European Union determined the software giant had been charging “unreasonable prices” to developers who were trying to create products that were compatible with the company’s Windows operating system.

Microsoft has been targeted by the EU for its practices which have been deemed to be in violation of antitrust regulations. The fine is the latest in a long line of penalties related to Microsoft’s business practices with rival software companies. Since 2004 Microsoft has accumulated nearly $2.5 billion in fines.
