FARC Releases Four Hostages after Six Years of Captivity

Four hostages who had been held captive by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, better known as FARC, have been released and are now undergoing medical examinations to ensure they are in good health.

The hostages were released in the southern jungles of Columbia and picked up by the International Committee of the Red Cross before being transported to Venezuela. Relatives of the four hostages were awaiting their arrival in Caracas where Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez will meet them as well.

Chavez is being credited with brokering the deal with FARC that resulted in the hostages gaining their freedom.

Gloria Polanco, Luis Eladio Perez, Orlando Beltran and Eduardo Gechem were identified as the four hostages freed.
