Dallas Student Ashley Parra Killed in Semi Truck Accident

A 20-year-old University of North Texas student was killed Wednesday afternoon after a semi-truck tumbled off a ramp and fell on top of a car below. Police say Ashley Parra was sitting at a traffic light on Continental Avenue when an 18-wheeler truck was leaving Woodall Rodgers Freeway and getting onto Interstate 35E.

Authorities believe the truck's load shifted as it was going around the curve, causing it to flip over the guard rail and land on top of Parra’s car as she was sitting at the light.

Parra and the driver of the truck, 38-year-old David Simonelli, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed may have been a factor in the fatal accident. Police are still investigating.
