Samantha Stosur showed no signs of slowing down after knocking off Serena Williams in the quarterfinals of the French Open as the Australian dispatched Jelena Jankovic in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to advance to her first career Grand Slam singles finals.
Stosur simply overwhelmed the Serb, hammering out seven aces while collecting five break points in the match. Stosur won points on 81 percent of her first serves put in play compared to a Jankovic’s 38 percent on her first serves in play, a clear indicator as to how the match went.
Stosur’s best finish at a Grand Slam prior to this year’s French Open was a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open, something she did in 2006 and 2010. Her best finish at the French Open before this year was a third round appearance in 2007.
