USS Cole Sent to Lebanese Coast as “Show of Support”

United States officials have sent the USS Cole warship to the coast of Lebanon as a “show of support” for “regional security.”

“The United States believes a show of support is important for regional stability. We are very concerned about the situation in Lebanon,” said a senior official of the Bush administration. “It has dragged on very long.”

Lebanon has been in a political deadlock between the Lebanese government and the Syrian opposition group. The presidential election in Lebanon has been postponed 15 times as the rival leaders have failed to reach an agreement.

“Our sense is that there is increased nervousness, with Hezbollah people making threats and a general sense that this is not going to get resolved,” the official added.
