Deadly Toxin Ricin Discovered in Las Vegas Motel

A package containing a deadly toxin known as ricin was discovered at a Las Vegas motel on Thursday leading to health officials quarantining several workers and police officers who were exposed to the substance.

The ricin was found at the Extended Stay America Motel after the manager notified police of a suspicious package discovered on the property.

Test indicated the package contained levels of ricin, a lethal byproduct of waste left over after processing Castor beans.

At least seven people were quarantined and decontaminated at the motel before being taken to a local hospital for further testing. Further tests on the substance were being made by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with results expected later Friday.

An amount of ricin equal to the size of the head of a pin can be lethal to a person.
