NBA Finals: Lakers Win Game 1

The Lakers Turn It Up at Home

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Boston Celtics 102-89 in Game 1 of the 2010 NBA Finals. Kobe led the Lakers scoring with 30 points, 3 of which came from a three-pointer made in the final seconds of the game. Pau Gasol led both teams in rebounds and blocks, proving to be a highly effective defender against the highly talented Boston offense. On the Celtics side, Paul Pierce provided the most points for his team with 24, many of which came from the free throw line. Not surprisingly, the game proved to be physical, with Ron Artest getting tangled up and crashing to the floor with Paul Pierce in the first 30 seconds of the game. Gasol said of the physicality involved that "I knew it was going to be physical. That's a given. After consecutive Finals, we understand the nature of the game. We understand who our rival is, how they play. You've got to compete, and you've got to match that physicality effort of the game to be successful." The Celtics put up a good effort, but it did not prove enough to match the skill of the Lakers. Game 2 will also take place in LA, and it is sure to be an exciting one.
