Rafael Nadal is now one step away from his fifth career French Open singles title after taking care of Jurgen Melzer in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) at Roland Garros on Friday.
Nadal managed to once again rely on his consistency as he won points on 75 percent of his first serves put in play and 69 percent of his second serves. The Spaniard also collected 37 winners in the match and managed to break Melzer’s serve five times.
Nadal is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2009 French Open where he fell in the fourth round to Robin Söderling. Before that surprising loss Nadal had won the previous four French Open titles. He also has an Australian Open title under his belt as well as a Wimbledon championship, leaving only the U.S. Open as the only Grand Slam event the 23-year-old Spaniard hasn’t won.
