Cab Driver Involved in Abandoned Baby Plot

The cab driver who claimed that a stranger had left a baby in the backseat of his vehicle was arrested on Saturday and charged with being involved in a plot orchestrated by the parents to abandon the infant.

Last Thursday Klever Sailema arrived at a New York fire station with a 6-month-old baby girl and told investigators that a man had left the child in his cab.

According to police that story quickly proved false as they discovered Sailema had been friends with the baby’s family and was part of a plot to help them turn the child over to the city.

On Saturday Sailema was charged with filing a false report and endangering the welfare of a child. Also arrested were Maria Siavichay, 21, who was charged with endangering a child and Marcelo Vinansaca, 24, who was charged with obstructing the police investigation.
