R.E.M. to Perform at SXSW at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q in Austin, Texas on March 12

Legendary alternative rock band and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees R.E.M. will be performing at the upcoming SXSW Festival in Austin, TX with a date set for March 12 at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q.

Formed in 1980 by Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, Peter Buck and Bill Berry developed a massive following in Athens, Ga. and quickly became a college radio station favorite. Their first few years were marked by success with singles such as Radio Free Europe and Gardening at Night and by the time they released their debut album Murmur in 1983 they were well on their way to stardom.

In 1987 they released the single “The One I Love” which brought them mainstream success and they’ve never looked back. Along the way they influenced bands such as Sonic Youth, Nirvana, the Replacements and several others.

Following their stop at SXSW, R.E.M. will travel to London to perform at the Royal Albert Hall on March 24. They will follow that with several shows in North America beginning in late May.
