The difference maker in Texas is the Hispanic vote. Clinton is dominating that demographic (67-30), nearly as much as Obama is winning the African American vote (78-13).

Obama is also not doing as well with young voters as he has in many states that he’s won handily. He leads among 18-29 year olds just 50-47 and with folks 30-45 just 49-43.

Obama has lost a lot of support with white males over the last week in the state. Last week he led among them 58-37. Now he trails Clinton 54-41.

“Barack Obama has tried hard but still seems unable to win over Hispanic voters,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “That dynamic is what caused him to lose in California, and it looks like recent history may repeat itself tomorrow in Texas.”
