Quote:
The key for both campaigns continues to be getting out their voters -- all of their voters -- but especially those groups that have been most supportive and offer the most opportunity for leverage. With early voting now over and the race still tight, any major shifts will break late and be a function of turnout. We’ve been emphasizing the importance of the Hispanic vote for Hillary Clinton and the African American vote for Barack Obama. That still holds true. Hillary Clinton retains a 44- point lead among Hispanics, while Barack Obama is holding on to a 70-point lead among African Americans. Should one or both of these groups achieve a higher proportion of the turnout than in past elections, it will likely turn the election one way or the other.
Further evidence of their strength among their base voters, Clinton’s favorable rating among Hispanics is 73% compared to 51% for Obama; among African Americans Obama enjoys a 90% favorable rating compared to 61% for Hillary Clinton.
