Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to Perform at the Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest July 5

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will be performing live at the Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 5 at 8:00 pm.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their first album in 1976 but did not gain recognition until 1977 after the re-release of the single “Breakdown,” which peaked at #40 on the charts in 78.  The band followed the album with Your Gonna Get It!, featuring “I Need to Know” and “Listen to Her Heart” which later became the band’s first gold album.   The band’s third album, Damn the Torpedoes quickly went platinum and featured the band’s breakthrough singes, “Don’t Do Me Like That” and “Refugee.”

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are spending 2008 on their North American Tour performing at venues across the United States and Canada.  Steve Windwood will open for every show.

The Marcus Amphitheater stands on the south end of the Henry Maier Festival Park.  The venue was built in 1987 and was primarily funded by the Marcus Corporation (NYSE:MCS).  It is locally known as the Summerfest Grounds in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Hosting a range of events every spring, summer and fall, the amphitheater is better known for its annual Summerfest.

Summerfest is an annual event lasting for 11 days.  Commonly called “The Big Gig,” the festival began in the mid1970’s and has since then attracted about a million people each year.  The event  is promoted as “The World’s Largest Music Festival” inspired by its recognition in the Guinness World Records as the largest musical festival in 1999.  The event is operated by the Milwaukee World Festival Inc, a non profit organization.
