The Police to Perform at the Scotiabank Place May 1

The Police will be performing live at the Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario on Thursday, May 1.

 

The Police are on a world tour in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their hit single, Roxanne from the Outlandos d'Amour album.  Since they gained popularity in the early 1980’s, the band has sold over 50 million albums around the globe.  In 1983, they’re album, Synchronicity, was the number one album in the United Kingdom and the United States and sold more than 8,000,000 copies.

 

The band was formed by Stewart Copeland, who played the drums.  Gordan Sumner (Sting) and Henry Padovani started to rehearse with the drummer in 1977 resulting in the recording of their first single, “Fall Out”/”Nothing Achieving.”  Their acting manager, Paul Mulligan funded their first recording.

 

The Scotiabank Place (Place Banque Scotia in French) is the home of the Ottawa Senators of the NHL and stands in what was formerly Kanata, Ontario, currently Ottawa, Ontario Canada.  The venue was first opened ast the Palladium in January 1996 and called the Corel Centre from February 1996 to February 2006.  since its opening, the 19,719 capacity facility has hosted several events, such as rock concerts, figure skating shows and several other forms of entertainment.  In addition, the venue is the home of the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame as well as numerous restaurants, a fitness complex and multiple businesses.
