NBA Finals: Celtics Win Game 2

Boston Ties the Series in LA

On Sunday night, the Boston Celtics tied the NBA Finals series 1-1 by beating the Los Angeles Lakers 103-94 at the Staples Center, which marked the first time that the Lakers lost a home game during this post-season. Ray Allen, who broke the all-time NBA Finals record for most three-pointers made in a single game with 8, led both teams in scoring with 32. Amazingly, his first seven three pointers were all made in the first half, and they were consecutive! Not surprisingly, Rajon Rondo proved to be a crucial element in the Boston victory, recording his fifth playoff triple-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. After the game, Rajon said of his amazing feat that "The best part about getting a triple-double is getting a win. That's pretty much it. It would be pointless to get a triple-double and lose the game." On the Lakers side, Pau Gasol led the scoring with 25; he also made 8 rebounds and 6 blocks. Andrew Bynum also had a good game, with 6 rebounds. He also tied the 21 points made by Kobe Bryant, who struggled to help his team in the second half because of foul trouble. After the defeat, Lakers coach Phil Jackson, who has yet to lose a post-season series after winning Game 1, said, "In a sequence like this, there's no doubt it's a blow to us to lose the homecourt, but we anticipated this might happen, and we're just going to have to go pick it up." Interestingly, the next 3 games will be played in Boston, so the Lakers will certainly have to display some mental toughness in addition to picking up their game for the rest of the series. Game 2 can be seen on ABC on Tuesday at 9:00 PM ET. (Sources: Associated Press)
