The couple then went to Dr. Victor Klein, who specialized in high risk deliveries. Klein had successfully delivered 161 sets of triplets within the past 20 years, but this is the first time he would deleiver a set of identical triplets. The chances of identical triplets being born is said to be 1 in 200 million births.
Allison Penn said she and her husband were “shocked” when they learned they were having triplets. Allison and Tom had been struggling to conceive for four years. They decided to try in-vitro fertilization and hoped to only have one child. Allison and Tom say they are very happy with their three sons.
Allison, 31, says when they were first told, “We thought, ‘That’s not possible.’ Then Tom started laughing and I started crying…I was terrified.”
The Penn’s named their sons Logan, Eli and Collin. The boys and their mother were released from the hospital Sunday.
