Helen Thomas, Longtime White House Correspondent, Retires Following Criticism Over Recent Remarks Caught on Video

Helen Thomas, the longtime White House correspondent who has covered every U.S. president since Eisenhower, has resigned from Hearst Newspapers following a controversial remark she made regarding the Jewish presence in Palestine.

Last month Thomas attended a Jewish heritage event at the White House and when she was asked if she had anything to say about Israel the 89-year-old said “Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.”

While Thomas issued an apology for her comments she was unable to escape the harsh criticism that followed and on Monday she opted to retire effective immediately.
