Rush to Perform Live at the Xcel Energy Center May 22

Rush will be performing live at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota on Thursday May 22 at 7:30 pm.

Formed in the Willowdale neighborhood of Toronto, Ontario, the Canadian rock band known as Rush was created in 1968.  Geddy Lee performed ast the bassist, keyboardist and lead vocalist, Alex Lifeson played the guitar and Neil Peart was the band’s lyricist and drummer.  Although the band’s lineup fluctuated between 1968 and 1974, the band released their first album, in 1974.

Since the release of their self titled album, Rush has been known for their instrumental virtuosity.  Their music often featured complex compositions and eclectic lyrical motifs which were inspired by science fiction, fantasy, libertarian philosophy and addresses the humanitarian, social, emotional and environmental concerns.  The band also served as inspiration for several bands, such as Metallica, The Smashing Pumpkins, Primus, Dream Theater and Symphony X.

With 24 gold records and 14 platinum records, the band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994 and received multiple Juno Awards.  Statistically, the band is in fifth place for the most consecutive gold and platinum albums, according to the RIAA.  They are behind The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Kiss and Aerosmith.  The RIAA also notes that Rush is the 78th for the most albums sold in the United States and are tied with Nirvana, ZZ Top, Selena, Jay-Z and Faith Hill.
