Times Square Explosion Targets Recruiting Station

A Times Square recruiting station that was utilized by the Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force was the target of an early morning explosion Thursday morning in New York. While there have been no reports of injuries the blast did cause minor damage to the building and was felt by guests at a local hotel.

According to a witness at the scene a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and riding a bicycle was seen leaving the Times Square area with a backpack shortly after the 3:45 a.m. explosion.

Police arrived on the scene and found an ammunition box near the recruiting station but described the bomb as a crude device that was not capable of large scale damage.

The station has been the site of several anti-war demonstrations.
