A Florida fisherman casting a rod off of Singer Island in Palm Beach County found himself battling more than just a large fish on Wednesday, he had a 13-foot, 1,000 pound hammerhead shark on the end of his line.

Fritz Van Der Grifd said that when he saw the shadow of the hammerhead he was dumbfounded yet he grabbed the reel and the battle ensued.

According to Van Der Grifd the hammerhead died during the struggle. The shark’s organs were being sent to a San Diego laboratory for research.
