The most inviting way to tell you about this sexy and hilarious new novel is to let the author speak for himself. His vision of Tony A., as he sometimes refers to himself, is so grandiose that the reader can only hope he lives up to it - and he does! Surprisingly, the author unfolds his amorous adventures with such enormous respect for women that he can almost be forgiven for sharing them.
The first chapter begins as follows:
"Just so you know how lucky you are that I wrote this book, I am the greatest Italian lover in the history of the world. Even the legendary Don Giovanni can't compare to me, because I'm much more thoughtful. To be honest, I make him look like a selfish, simple-minded amateur. One reason is, I do my best never to hurt anybody and the second reason is I never feel guilty. In fact, I'm proud because I know I bring so much healthy pleasure into the world, and I'm also proud of the women who have brought so much healthy pleasure to me.
"You may also be surprised to learn that I do not like - what do you call it? - to seduce women. No, no, I don't enjoy that at all. I believe in equality of the sexes. I think a woman has as much right to make love to me as I have to make love to her. So I like to invite women to enjoy making love with me.
"As maybe you can already guess, I am much more refined than what you imagine when you think of a great lover. I am the top - in the highest sense of what you call a make-out artist. Naturally, as an Italian, I take being an artist very seriously. I wasn't always one, though. When I began, I was as big a jackass as many other men. I learned my art by trial an error. I had no choice. There was not even one man I could study with. So I became what you call a self-taught artist.
"Now, I will begin at the beginning and take you up to the present. I will tell you the best way I can - by giving a starring role to the women who have been so nice and smart that they wanted to make love with me. I can't cover all of them. Then this book would be way too long. I want to tell my story, but I want to make it as short as I can, while I do the subject justice. I have too many other things to do, if you get my meaning. So I will concentrate of what I think are the most interesting women I've made love with. When I'm done, you will either decide that I'm the greatest lover the world has ever know and a nice guy, too, or you will decide that I am the greatest lover the world has ever known and what you call a low-life scoundrel. But, whatever you decide, you will be sure to know I'm the greatest lover the world has ever known."
As he experiences the delights and disappointments of a life devoted to romance, his generally sunny outlook also allows him to offer a world view about the beauty and value of life.
As he says in his dedication, “I dedicate this book to all of the beautiful women who have made love with me. I remember you all, I think, and would like to say, “Grazie amore per sapermi amare!” The English translation is, in case you don’t know, “Thank you, my love, for knowing how to love me!”
“I also dedicate it to life, which, with its daring brilliance, makes the art of lovemaking and all other joy possible. ‘Ti adoro! I adore you!’”
The book is delightfully engaging from start to finish. As he states in his “Note to the Reader”:
“Welcome, my friend. Sit down. Enjoy this beautiful book, which is my tribute to the blessings and, I admit, the complications of lovemaking.
“To begin with, you should know that my real name is not Anthony Amore. If I had to reveal my identity, so many women and their current lovers would be chasing me that my happiness would be in big trouble. And I consider part of my art staying out of trouble.
“Anthony Amore is the penname of a wise man who wants to remain happy and knows, for instance, how much trouble Casanova, the reckless Italian lover and author, got into, including jail time. But, as you’ll read, I’ve learned to accept the unavoidable complications that arise from loving women with all my heart.
“You should also know that I care about this beautiful half of the human race too much to treat them with anything but the highest respect. In fact, I think one reason women love me so much is that they know I am their true champion. My hope is that when they read what I have written they will love me even more.
“And what man will not want to read my book? You will experience the joys and sorrows of my own amazing love life, while you learn how to make love with a woman like a true artist. So she will reward you with her smiles and kisses – and what could make you happier?”
Toward the end of the book, Tony meets the elusive woman who possesses the ideal combination of virtues he has always been searching for - beauty, brains, and heart. The two seem to be in love, but he's still not sure how the relationship will work out. All he can do is hope for the best.
Here are comments in the press from two reviewers about works by the author when he's not using a penname: "... hilarious ... charming." "... great humor ... genuine laughs."
Can you guess who he is?
