An arms dealer known as “The Merchant of Death” has been arrested in Thailand. Viktor Bout specializes in delivering weapons to groups around the world. He was arrested in Bangkok this week at the request of the United States on suspicion of supplying arms to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a group that has fought Colombia’s authorities for more than 40 years.
He is accused of supplying weapons to the Taliban before the September 11 attack on the United States. The United Nations also accuse him of supplying weapons for most of the world’s conflicts.
Thai police say Bout, who controls at least 50 aircraft and is a former Soviet Air Force officer, is being held on a warrant issued by the United Stated Drug Enforcement Administration.
