A packed ferry said to be carrying several school children has capsized in northeast Bangladesh, leaving at least 12 dead and several more remain missing.
There has been no official word on how many passengers were aboard the ferry when it capsized. Some reports have stated 35 while others have said as many as 100 passengers were traveling on the ferry. That uncertainty has left many guessing how many people remain missing with that figure ranging from five to more than 60.
According to reports the ferry had been traveling in a river about 85 miles north of the capital Dhaka when it began to experience problems due to heavy storms. The ferry began taking on too much water and was being hit by heavy winds and strong waves when it eventually capsized, sending passengers into the rough waters.
While several of the passengers managed to swim ashore at least 12 deaths have been confirmed including six school girls and four small children.
