GM Recalls 1.5 Million Vehicles Due to Fire Risk

General Motors has recalled about 1.5 million vehicles after learning of a potentially dangerous problem with their heated washer fluid system.

According to GM the recall will involve the disabling of the hated washer fluid system which has posed a fire risk in some cases. GM said they are being forced to disable the feature because “This was a unique technology available from only one supplier, and that supplier has stopped manufacturing, which left no opportunity to collaborate on an improved design.”

GM will make a voluntary payment of $100 to each car owner or lessee for the loss of the feature.

While there have been no reports of injuries or crashes due to the heated washer system GM stated “we want our customers to have complete peace of mind.”

The models affected by the recall include: the 2006-2009 model year Buick Lucerne; Cadillac DTS; Hummer H2; 2008-2009 model year Buick Enclave; Cadillac CTS; 2007-2009 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe; GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL; Saturn Outlook; and 2009 model year Chevrolet Traverse.
