For years now Joy Gendusa, Founder & CEO of PostcardMania, has been giving back in exchange for the success she has received. She was not always the CEO of a multi-million dollar enterprise as she is today. In 1998, while struggling to grow her business she came across a little known idea — postcard marketing. Using her marketing savvy with no capital investment, she took that idea and turned it into a niche that exploded across the nation. Today, Joy is letting non-profits in on the bandwagon — she’s giving her services away to non-profits for free.
Having PostcardMania handle the direct mailing needs of 28,000+ customers in over 350 industries nationwide wasn't enough for Gendusa. She decided to set up a division within her company with the sole purpose of handling pro-bono work for non-profit organizations — the only stipulation being that these organizations have the purpose of assisting mankind to improve his lot and make the world a better place. In sync with this, PostcardMania now donates the design, printing and mailing services of hundreds of thousands of direct mail postcards for non-profit charities all over the country.
It all started when charities started calling into PostcardMania requesting help and explaining their difficulties in raising money for printing in addition to their day-to-day operational expenses. Because there was no standard line to handle all these requests, Gendusa said she decided to “make it official and just go hog wild.”
“There are a lot of good organizations, if given a chance, can make a big difference,” said Gendusa. “It makes me happy that we [PostcardMania] can help them… and I know it makes a difference with my staff too — they are so supportive of our probono line. I couldn’t do it without them.”
Since she began her philanthropic adventure, PostcardMania has supported charities that would otherwise not have the funds to promote their events or raise awareness for their causes. Through their donations of the design, printing and mailing services of hundreds of thousands of direct mail postcards each year, PostcardMania has helped many groups that span the full gamut of humanitarianism from the arts, to education, to human rights and even military morale… such as:
