Kevin Underwood Handed Death Penalty by Jury

A Norman, Oklahoma jury recommended the death penalty for Kevin Underwood on Friday following his conviction last week in the brutal murder and mutilation of 10-year-old Jamie Rose Bolin in April 2006.

Underwood sat silent as the jury returned following 8 ½ hours of deliberation. Jurors had the option of sentencing the 28-year-old to life in prison without the possibility of parole but opted to hand him the death penalty due to the graphic nature of the crime.

Jamie Rose Bolin had been lured to Underwood’s apartment, was beaten and then suffocated and then had her body mutilated before being stuffed in a plastic tub.

The former grocery clerk had revealed he had been overrun by fantasies involving torturing and cannibalizing a victim. He had said he chose Jamie Rose Bolin as his victim because he figured she wouldn’t be able to put up much of a fight.

Formal sentencing for Underwood is scheduled for April 3.
