Since a very young age, Armin, whose industry alias is Tiger, had a passion for music.
“I remember trying to stay up late to try to watch MJ (Michael Jackson) video premieres,” recalls the young producer.
Armin’s first encounter with real instruments came in elementary school where through his unique feeling for music, he quickly attracted the attention of his teachers who had him to try a variety of instruments such as: flute, oboe, bassoon, and even the clarinet.
“I really loved playing a real instrument. It gave me such a comforting feeling but my peers made me think it wasn’t a good thing, kind of waste of time when I look back cause it was just looked down upon,” explains Tiger. “Being a fat kid playing an instrument or break dancing which I also enjoyed very much wasn’t a good look.”
The hardships continued into high school years. Tiger recalls how the music nearly completely vanished from his life. Looking to fill the void in his life, he decided to take up DJ’ing.
“I wasn’t really happy so I thought; hey I might as well try spinnin’ a couple of records, ‘cuz ya know that was cool with everyone.”
Finding some success at the young age of 16, he launched a line of bootlegs and mixes of CDs and played at some of the largest clubs in the city. “For once, I was happy. I downloaded couple of sequencing programs that were demos mostly. I kept it to myself and worked on my craft. Instead of rapping and all that, I focused on making beats.”
Along the way he has found some of the top artists in the industry such as: Cuban Link, The Game, Dipset, Mya, and others. “It has been an honor to work with such visionaries because they actually let me produce and bring my concepts to life,” concludes Tiger.
