Chinese Police Stop Beijing Olympic Terrorist Plot

Chinese officials have revealed that the materials seized in a January 27 raid in the western region of Xinjiang were being assembled by plotters to target the staging of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The small group that had gathered the materials was believed to have been trained by a terrorist organization known as the East Turkestan Islamic Movement. Many inside the organization have close ties to al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

No information about what type of materials or specific targets was mentioned.
