The collision occurred as the train was traveling from Buenos Aires to Mar del Plata, a popular resort beach town south of the capital city. According to a passenger on the bus the driver was trying to beat the train to a crossing in the town of Dolores but was met with a massive crash around 2:00 a.m. local time.
Early reports have said the train conductor had been sounding his horn and the crossing barriers had been down yet the bus attempted to skirt past the oncoming train.
The bus was carrying 61 passengers and two drivers, 30 of those on the bus received serious injuries while at least 15 passengers and two conductors on the train were injured.
