Nigel Dawes Wants to Stay With Rangers
Nigel Dawes is determined to stick it out with the Rangers this time and find his spot with Brendan Shanahan and Scott Gomez. In his last 24 games, Dawes had 6 goals and 12 assists. He may be fast but his passing and play making are underrated. For example, the pass he made to spring Shanahan for the opening goal 1:29 into the Ranger's 4-1 win against the Islanders. Dawes spotted Shanahan at the Islanders' line and shot a tape to tape pass to set up the goal.
Rangers Coach, Tom Renney, knows that Shanahan can close the deal with two other players setting him up, forming an extremely effective trio. Dawes started playing junior hockey in 2001 when he moved to Kootenay, British Columbia. He scored 159 goals in four junior seasons, then had 35 during his first full year in the pros at Hartford. When playing against Buffalow, Dawes had 2 passes right on Shanahan's stick in the slot. At that game, Dawes showed the courage and skill the Rangers knew he had. Even though he's not happy about traveling back and forth, he enjoys playing with the Rangers and hopes to stick around.
