10-Year-Old in Critical Condition after Being Buried in Sandbox

A 10-year-old Everett, Washington boy remains in critical condition following an incident in which the he tried to imitate a popular cartoon. Cody Quantrille allowed several other children to bury him in a sandbox, from his head to his chest, saying he would be the “sand ninja” if he was able to escape.

Cody’s playmates said they noticed him thrashing about but thought he was just playing. They soon realized something was wrong and pulled him out of the sand and ran to get help from adults.

CPR was administered to Cody and he was rushed to the Children’s Hospital in Seattle where he has been listed in critical condition.
