Rufus Shaw Murders Wife, Commits Suicide

Dallas Police believe that political analyst Rufus Shaw Jr. murdered his wife, former Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) board chairwoman Lynn Flint Shaw, before killing himself.

The couple was found dead in their home on Monday after relatives called authorities out of concern because they had not been able to reach the Shaws. The bodies of Rufus and Lynn were found in their bedroom. A handgun lay nearby. Police say it appears that Rufus shot his wife before shooting himself.

Rufus, who had reportedly been battling prostate cancer, was facing jail time after being accused of forging letterhead and the signature of Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins. He could have faced up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Lynn was also facing charges of failing to immediately disclose a contract, which is a Class C misdemeanor in Texas. “The DART family is saddened by the tragic death of former chair Lynn Flint Shaw,” said DART chairman Randall Chrisman in a statement. “She was a friend to many on the staff and board and she will be missed.”
