David Lista Admits to Filming Students in Bathroom

A Mills High School English teacher had admitted to filming student’s using the woman’s restroom near his classroom. Police say 35-year-old David Lista, of Belmont, California, installed a small camera in the ceiling of the women’s bathroom and taped as many as 19 students and teachers over the span of one to two months.

“He did make statements that indicated he was involved in the recording to the young ladies in the restroom,” said Sgt. John Aronis of the Millbrae police department. “What happened was he accessed the false ceiling, which was a series of panels, and had broken out a small piece.”

The footage was found on the school’s computer server after a technology coordinator was trying to find out why the server was overloaded. Lista, who had taught at the school for at least 7 years, was arrested Thursday. Police searched his home and found a small amount of methamphetamine. Police took a computer from his home as well as his school computer.

Lista was released from jail on Friday after posting $10,000 bail. It is unclear what he will be charged with. Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Lista could be charged with felony obscenity if the police investigation proves the images were transferred in any way or shows certain body parts.

Lista’s arraignment is set for April 8.
