Sen. Barack Obama went on NBC's Today Show Wednesday and responded to Geraldine Ferraro's controversial comments.
"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position," said Ferraro in an interview with the Daily Breeze in Torrance, CA. "And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."
Obama called Ferraro's comments absurb, saying "If you were to get a handbook on what's the path to the presidency, I don't think the handbook would start by saying 'be an African-American named Barack Obama."
"I don't think that would be generally considered an advantage," continued Obama.
"If somebody in my campaign suggested that Sen. [Hillary] Clinton was only where she is because she's a woman, people would take great offense and rightly so," exclaimed Obama. "I just don't think that kind of approach to evaluating candidates or denigrating candidates is particularly useful to the Democratic Party."
