Demario James Atwater, 21, has been charged with first degree murder in the death of University of North Carolina student Eve Carson. Carson was shot to death on March 5. A man later attempted to use her ATM card at a bank and convenience store and was caught on tape.
Police say the man may have been driving Carson’s SUV and it appeared as if another person was in the back seat of the car.
Atwater was arrested late Tuesday night by Durham, North Carolina police. He was later turned over to Chapel Hill authorities.
This past Sunday, family and friends of Carson’s gathered in her hometown of Athens, Georgia for her funeral. Carson was the student body president of UNC and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
