Archbishop Kidnapped in Iraq Found Dead

The body of Catholic Archbishop Paul Faraj Rahho, the victim of a violent kidnapping in northern Iraq last month, was found in a shallow grave near the town of Mosul.

It has been two weeks since Archbishop Rahho and three companions were ambushed by what is believed to be a group of al-Qaeda insurgents. In that attack the Archbishop’s driver and two security guards were killed and Rahho was abducted.

The kidnapping was quickly denounced by the Vatican as well as several figures in neighboring countries and the United Nations.

Over the course of the two weeks the kidnappers contacted relatives of Rahho and the Catholic Church demanding a ransom be paid for safe release. On Thursday those kidnappers contacted the family of Rahho and informed them that the Archbishop was dead and told them where the body was buried.

Reports have said Rahho had been shot several times.
