While President Abraham Lincoln will remain on the new $5 bill his portrait has undergone a bit of a facelift as the Federal Reserve opted to splash the updated denomination with a purple hue.
The new $5 bill was introduced on Wednesday at a commemorative transaction at President Lincoln’s Cottage at the Soldiers’ Home in
In a statement released by Michael Lambert, Assistant Director, Division of Reserve Bank Operations and Payment Systems at the Federal Reserve Board noted “The redesigned $5 bill's enhanced security features help ensure we stay ahead of counterfeiters and protect your hard-earned money. It only takes a few seconds to check the new $5 bill to make sure it's genuine. If you know how to check its security features, you can easily be confident it's real.”
