Lawrence Lovette Jr. Charged with Carson and Mahato Murders

Lawrence Alvin Lovette Jr. has been charged with the shooting deaths of two college students. The 17-year-old was arrested Thursday morning and charged with the murder of University of North Carolina student body president Eve Carson. He has also been charged in connection with the murder of Duke University graduate student Abhijit Mahato.

Demario James Atwater, 21, was also arrested in Caron’s death and charged with first degree murder. Authorities are now trying to determine if he was also involved in Mahato’s death.

 

Lovette is the second person charged in Mahato’s shooting. Five days after the 29-year-old was found shot to death in his apartment, police charged 19-year-old Stephen Oates with murder.
