At academic summer camps, nothing is more important to success than the staff who provide the content. That's why SuperCamp's summer staff, who lead 3,000 students in programs throughout the U.S., go through an intense training program in the six months leading up to the summer camps.
A big part of the staff training begins today, where all SuperCamp facilitators come to San Diego to participate in a program called Know It By Heart. Over 60 facilitators, the staff members who lead the camper learning and life skills training, are attending Know It By Heart, an intense four-day program at the company's headquarters, where they literally learn and practice all facets of the summer curriculum until they know it be heart.
Several other training sessions follow this program, all in preparation for the summer programs. Most facilitators are teachers in their own right. Many SuperCamp facilitators have started out as campers and progressed through numerous staff positions over the years. Several facilitators say that their SuperCamp experience is what inspired them to become teachers in the first place.
SuperCamp will run over 35 individual camp sessions in 2008 across eight
SuperCamp will carry four age-specific programs: a Youth Forum for boys and girls going into grades 4 and 5 in the fall, Junior Forum for kids going into grades 6-8, Senior Forum for teens entering grades 9-12 and Quantum U for incoming college freshmen.
The expanded program schedule for 2008 reflects the fact that over 200 people ended up on the waiting list last summer, unable to get into the camp of their choice. SuperCamp’s growing popularity is an indication that parents view academic summer camps as a solid investment in their kids’ future.
