Slovenia moved atop Group C in the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Sunday after scoring a 1-0 victory, their first ever in soccer’s biggest event, over Algeria.
With the score knotted at 0-0 late in the second half Robert Koren fired a shot that hit off Algerian goalkeeper Fawzi Chaouchi and bounced into the back of the net.
For Slovenia, the smallest nation playing in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the victory was their country’s first having dropped all three of their contests in 2002. With the win Slovenia jumped ahead of England and the United States in Group C play.
