German Police Kill U.S. Soldier after Standoff

German police in Koenigsberg shot and killed a U.S. soldier Thursday night after a brief standoff following a hostage situation.

According to police the soldier had taken his girlfriend hostage and was threatening her with an M4 rifle. The woman was able to escape and called police who then began searching for the soldier.

Police were able to locate the serviceman but he began threatening the local authorities when they attempted to arrest him. The police then shot the man who died later that night in a German hospital.

The U.S. military has said the soldier was from the 2^nd Brigade, 1^st Infantry Division “Dagger Brigade.”
