2010 FIFA World Cup Scores: Germany Crushes Australia in Group D Opener

Germany opened their 2010 FIFA World Cup with a clear message for their Group D opponents, they are here to destroy. On Sunday that was made apparent as they crushed Australia 4-0 to join Ghana atop their pool.

The Germans wasted little time as Lukas Podolski netted the first goal eight minutes into the contest and 18 minutes later Miroslav Klose put home a header to push the advantage to 2-0. Klose’s goal was his eleventh in World Cup play and was enough to crush the spirits of the Aussies.

It didn’t get any better for Australia as the Germans scored a pair of goals in the second half. The first came from Thomas Müller and before the crowd could settle down Cacau would find the back of the net for the fourth goal of the match.
